Our Parish Blog

Dear All,

I am very sorry i have not been able to post anything about my adventure to orphanage, which i can assure you was a very special experience. This, however, is not due to the lack of want or trying. I have had a small problem, where at the last hotel i wrote a very large blog about the orphanage and tried to upload my pictures. Which was slightly stupid, as the computer i was using then proceeded to wipe my entire memory card.

I only have 15minutes at this computer and ive spend most of that time trying to open this page so this will have to be short and i will do my best to write a big blog at my next hotel tomorrow.

The orphanage was very very different. We went on saturday, so there was noone there who spoke english and so our tour guide Tom translated for us during a 'business like meeting' in the conference type room at the orphanage. I learnt a little more about the orphanage and also let the other people who came with me ask questions.

I wrote into their donation book a long list of things that we as a community had donated including $300! All together i had 12 bags of items and 16 tins of food thickener, which is amazing, primarily because these things were in my suitcase. Dont worry, i have already filled it again! hahaha

we played outside with the children for some time, but wehat i really wanted to do was go meet thoes children who could not walk. So off i searched for these children, and i found 12 of them in a small room. 2 children to a bed. I spoke to all of them and played with them all. But i did fall in love with 2 children in particular. They both had cerebral palsy and were at very different levels, but both had beautiful smiles and gave great hugs.

just spending time with these kids made me realise how much i really have and how lucky i am to come from a country which will help you when you have a disability. None of these children had wheel chairs. In fact, i saw 2 communal ones there. All of our kids at home that need wheel chairs do get them.

As much as i thought this entire expereince would be a sad one, it was the best 2 hours of my entire trip. I fed the boys, i watched some of them have a shower, i played and i cuddled. I saw how they were fed, and what they eat. i realise we are worlds apart, but it was still so similar to what i see every day at work, just with less money behind it.

My time on this computer is coming to an end, and i promise i will write again soon and try to post pictures when i can. Thankyou to the people who have left me beautiful comments, they have been very encouraging.

Lots of love

Sam
