This is a summary of key matters at the Parish Pastoral Council meeting, 22nd July 2009. Update on Parish Priorities A number of activities are under way to implement the Parish Priorities. In particular: 1. Monthly Men’s Breakfast, first Saturday of each month. 2. Toonie Tots Parent Group, first Wednesdays. 3. Parish Multicultural Mass and meal on 31st October. 4. Regular cup of tea after weekend Masses. The Plan can be viewed on the parish website. The PCC has reorganised its meetings so as to give a priority to discussing these priorities. Reports St Vincent De Paul Society has its door-knock appeal this month. Parish involvement in the school fete is proceeding. Raffle tickets are on sale after Masses and craft goods still needed. The PCC requests that any reports or correspondence with the Pastoral Council be sent in writing at least one week before the next meeting so that paperwork can be emailed/sent to PCC members before the meeting. Personnel: After 34 years of service to the community of St Anthony’s, Kay Horner has announced that she will leave this role at the end of August. A celebration of her contribution is being planned for 11th October. Parish Finance. Parishioner George Cullen is assisting with ideas to expand the base of givers towards the parish envelopes. The parish had a small loss at the end of the last financial year. The diocesan Audit expressed satisfaction with the financial management of the parish. A full financial report will be presented to parishioners during August. As part of the planned giving renewal, letters will go to parishioners reminding them of the option of direct debit. Other Parish Events Bishop’s Visit. Bishop Kevin made his regular pastoral visitation to St Anthony’s from 6-9th August. He was assisted by Fr Ron McFarlane, Vicar for Clergy, who was hosted at a small dinner with Fr Paul and the Parish Pastoral Council during the visit. Annual Mass for Deceased Relatives. This will take place on Friday 30th October. Parishioners who have relatives who have died during the past year will be invited (around September/October) to leave their names with the Parish Office. Preparing for Parish AGM. In the weeks leading up to the AGM, there will be opportunity for parishioners to learn more about the role of the PPC. The Parish Council is primarily concerned with Pastoral issues. There will be a half-day session of discernment, prayer and reflection for parishioners who are interested to be considered as PPC members. This will be held on Sunday 15th November. Multicultural Mass and Dinner on 31st October to anticipate the Feast of All Saints. This celebration acknowledges and expresses the wonderful abundance of cultures within our parish. More details will be available soon. It is hoped that parishioners will share their language, dress, food and music in celebrating Eucharist and a community meal afterwards. Next Parish Pastoral Council meeting: 26th August
